Students return to school, suspicious odor result of faulty valve

A suspicious odor reported just before 7 a.m. at the Knoch High School/Middle School building turned out to be a faulty valve in a maintenance room.

Due to the odor, school officials posted earlier on the district's website that instructing all high school students to report to South Butler Primary School and middle school students to report to South Butler Intermediate Elementary School. Elementary school students were told to report to school as usual.

High school and middle school students have since returned to their regular schools and all schools are running on normal schedule. .

Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department were called to investigate but the scene was subsequently cleared.

Fire Chief Chris Dean said the call came in as a possible gas leak.

"It turned out to be a faulty valve in the maintenance room," he said. "The problem was taken care of right away and the issue has been resolved."
