Early morning crash closes a portion of Sunset Drive in Center Township

Authorities report a portion of Sunset Drive in Center Township is closed this morning for low hanging wires after a car struck and damaged a utility pole. One person was transported to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries as a result of the 6:20 a.m. crash just north of Mahood Road.

State police and Unionville volunteer firefighters closed a small section, about one-eighth mile, of Sunset Drive between Route 8 and Mahood Road near the Unionville fire station.

The downed wires are “non electrical,” according to emergency crews.

A CenturyLink worker inspected the damaged pole and the company is dispatching a crew to make repairs. That crew is expected to be on scene by 8 a.m., according to officials with Unionville Volunteer Fire Department.

Repairs will likely take a few hours.

Authorities said the driver was northbound when she lost control of her four-door sedan and hit the pole along an embankment. The woman was already out of the vehicle in the wreck when firefighters and police arrived.

Officials report it is going to need to be a coordinated effort between the towing company and CenturyLink to remove the car and wires from the embankment before

replacing the pole.
