George Clair Measel

George Measel

George Clair Measel, 70, of Middle Lancaster Township passed away while under hospice care at Allegheny General Hospital on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2020.

He was born Feb. 9, 1949, in Ellwood City.

George is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sara “Sally” Keith Measel; his daughter, Wendy (Shaun) McLoughlin; his son, Andrew Dean Measel; and two grandchildren, Morgan Fay and Joshua Dean McLoughlin.

Also surviving are his sister, Carol Jean (Howard) Moser, their two sons, one daughter, and their families.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Thelma Measel.

George was a 1967 graduate of Seneca Valley High School, and a 1971 graduate of IUP.

He worked as an insurance claims adjuster his entire career and served as president of the PA Claims Association in 1997.

George was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middle Lancaster for 42 years, serving as council president several times, and was treasurer of the Zion Cemetery Association. He was a member and past president of the Zelienople Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris recipient.

George really enjoyed being a member of the Country Campers for 30 years, was an avid collector of knives (much to his wife’s dismay) and loved fixing and painting things.

George will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Rest in peace good and faithful servant.
