Farm succession will be discussed at a workshop Feb. 28 at the AgChoice Farm Credit office, 610 Evans City Road.
Registration will begin at 9:20 a.m., and programming will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and includes lunch.
There will be five speakers discussing the transfer of the farm business with the aim of helping people to develop a succession plan.
Registration is due Friday and may be completed online at www.pafarmlink.org or by calling 717-705-2121 or 724-541-0387. Workshop fee is $15 a person, and a discount is provided for two or more participants from the same farm operation.
Local historian and author Polly Shaw will talk about the region's industrial history from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Moraine State Park's Region 2 office on 195 Park Road in Prospect.To reach the office, from Prospect, exit off Route 422, go north on Route 528 about 50 yards and turn left onto Park Road. The Region 2 office is one mile on the right. Park behind the building.
Mars Area High School is seeking families to host AFS students who have been studying in local school districts for the school's 2020 Mars International Days, scheduled March 25 to 28, for the American Field Service/Mars International Student Association.Those interested will be asked to complete an online application, requiring the submission of references and the completion of an AFS background check.All prospective host families must also submit to a home visit by an AFS volunteer and obtain Pennsylvania Child Abuse History, Pennsylvania Criminal History and FBI Federal Criminal History Check clearances.Those interested should contact AFS club adviser Shawna Peters at speters@marsk12.org.
Mars Area Elementary School is hosting a #bethekindkid# Community Night from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.Participants will join in community projects to benefit local charities including Butler Meals on Wheels, Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, The Lighthouse Foundation and St. John Community, homeless shelters, and veterans' organizations.There will also be a “Pie in the Face” corner, where attendees can make a donation to toss a pie in the face of participating principals, teachers and school police officers.Proceeds will benefit Adams Area Fire District and Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company.The night is part of Mars Area School District's effort to spread kindness throughout its schools and the community.For more information, contact Chris Petrini, fourth grade teacher, at 724-625-3161.
Looking for more information on the REAL-ID? Rep. Marci Mustello, R-11th, will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Butler Township Building, 290 South Duffy Road.Starting Oct. 1 this year, Pennsylvanians who don't have a passport will need a REAL-ID for domestic commercial flights or to enter a federal building or military installation that requires ID.The Real-ID Act was passed on the federal level in 2005 to require states to meet higher security standards in how they process applications for licenses and identification cards as well as how they design and issue the cards.
The Mars Area Primary Center will hold a kindergarten preview from 9:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the school, 547 Route 228, Adams Township.The event is for 5 year olds who will be registering to attend the school's kindergarten program during the 2020-21 school year and their parents.
