Drivers injured in Route 422 crash involving tractor-trailer identified

Police said Burianek was traveling on Greenwood Drive and ran the stop sign at Route 422. She made a left turn onto Route 422 westbound and in front of the tractor-trailer that was headed east on Route 422.

BUTLER TWP — Police have identified the three people injured Friday evening in a tractor-trailer and sport utility collision at Route 422 and Greenwood Drive.

The crash, which occurred just after 7 p.m., left two Beaver County women trapped in an SUV and closed the eastbound lane for about 90 minutes.

Cynthia L. Burianek, 62, who was driving the Kia Sorento, and her passenger, Marietta Schriner, 77, both of Aliquippa, suffered moderate to severe injuries, Butler Township police said.

Both women were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. Their conditions were not available.

Robert Cougle, 55, of Johnstown, Cambria County, the other driver, had only a minor injury, police said, but he refused medical treatment.

Police said Burianek was traveling on Greenwood Drive and ran the stop sign at Route 422. She made a left turn onto Route 422 westbound and in front of the tractor-trailer that was headed east on Route 422. The front of the rig struck the left front of the SUV.

The impact pushed the SUV into a hillside. Emergency crews extricated both women from the vehicle. The Butler Township Volunteer Fire District and Butler Ambulance Service assisted at the scene.

Both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Burianek for failing to stop at a stop sign.
