An SUV hit a small building housing natural gas equipment in Eau Claire around 11:17 a.m. Sunday, forcing the evacuation of multiple homes.

Fire crews reported smelling gas and hearing a hissing sound from the gas lines. They evacuated multiple nearby homes for safety.

Two people were inside the SUV at the time of the crash. Nobody was hurt, state police said.

Columbia Gas said service was not interrupted.

Everyone who was evacuated was allowed back home several hours after the crash.

The Eau Claire Volunteer Fire Department and Columbia Gas responded to the scene.
