Sing Hosanna! offers dinner theater show
Not ready for the holidays to be over? Join the cast and crew at Sing Hosanna! for their Winter Dinner Theater on Jan. 18 at St. Peter’s Parish hall.
“The Mice and the Manger” is guaranteed to extend the holiday spirit. Under the direction of Ralph Christy Jr., hear the Christmas story from a different angle.
The traditional Nativity scene plays out as expected, but it happens from the perspective of the mice who were there on that very first Christmas.
Three groups of mice witness the miraculous event. Field mice, stable mice and house mice all give their take on the special night.
Jordan Davis of Butler plays Simon, “a snobby city mouse who acts tough.”
“We use our imagination to imagine what is going on outside the barn,” she said.
“It’s a fun show to do with lots of comedy and energy,” she added.
Leah Harris of Muddy Creek Township plays Sara, a stable mouse. “I am the mouse wife of Jacob. I’m a very kind and compassionate mouse who bickers with her husband more often than not,” said Harris.
Harris is no stranger to the stage but notes that dinner theaters are a bit different.
“There are no microphones and the audience is a few feet away at all times, so you have to adjust to such an intimate and up-close environment,” she said.
Her husband in the performance, Jacob, a stable mouse, is played by Than Archer of Penn Township.
“He is a grumpy mouse who doesn’t like to leave the house,” said Archer.
He says he’s using his experience as an older brother to bring some authority to the role. “There are many different emotions from a variety of characters which makes it interesting when they contrast with each other,” said Archer.
As always, the proceeds of the dinner theater go toward the operating expenses of Sing Hosanna! productions for the community. The next show from Sing Hosanna! will be “Shrek The Musical” in April.
