Brady Township woman charged in two new thefts
BUTLER TWP — A Brady Township woman is accused of two separate thefts in the township, including stealing a donation jar from a convenience store.
Butler Township police charged 49-year-old Johanne L. Minetti on Wednesday with pilfering the jar last fall from the Speedway on Hansen Avenue. The jar contained about $100 intended to benefit a children's charity.
Additionally, police charged her with shoplifting more than $400 in merchandise from the Kohl's store at the Butler Crossing shopping plaza in December.
Minetti faces a preliminary hearing next month on misdemeanor charges in both cases.
In an unrelated case last year, Minetti previously pleaded guilty to taking a donation jar from a Center Township store.
The Oct. 24 theft at the Speedway was captured on store surveillance video, police said. The suspect is seen walking up to the cash register and taking the jar earmarked for the Children's Miracle Network.
Police, however, did not get a copy of the video until Dec. 11. They posted a photo of the suspect, a woman believed to be in her 40s, on the department's Facebook page Dec. 16.
Butler Township Police Chief John Hays said Thursday the posting generated tips that identified Minetti as the possible suspect.
On Dec. 23, police came in contact with the defendant after a Kohl's employee stopped her for allegedly shoplifting, according to charging documents. She is accused of taking $410 worth of jewelry.
Minetti admitted taking the donation jar from the Speedway, police said. In that case, she is charged with theft by unlawful taking, a second-degree misdemeanor.
She is also charged in the Kohl's case with retail theft, a first-degree misdemeanor.
Her preliminary hearing in each case is set Feb. 6 before District Judge Kevin O'Donnell.
Minetti's attorney, Al Lindsay, declined to comment Thursday, saying only that he has not been informed of the specifics of the charges.
Court records showed state police charged Minetti last year with stealing a donation jar Oct. 13 from the Kwik Fill store on North Main Street in Center Township. According to court documents, there was about $20 in the jar meant for a cystic fibrosis organization.
In that case, she pleaded guilty Nov. 19 at the office of District Judge Lewis Stoughton in Chicora and was ordered to pay $389.75 in fines and court costs.
