Adams officials meet, approve appointments

ADAMS TWP — Adams residents welcomed a new supervisor Monday night during the township reorganizational meeting.

Clayton Morrow, who won a spot on the board of supervisors in the November election, joined the board in voting on a number of township appointments.

Morrow replaces former board chairman Thomas Franceschina. Franceschina retired from both supervisor and planning commission boards in December.

The board also unanimously enacted tax rates for 2020, with no changes. Real estate tax is 3.75 mills. Occupation tax is $10. Earned income and real estate transfer taxes are .5 percent each.

Supervisors also voted on new officers. All votes were unanimous.

Supervisor Russell Ford was voted new chairman of the board. Ron Shemela was voted vice chairman, and Linda Lees was approved as the supervisor in charge of township police. All five supervisors are considered township road masters.

Shawn Anglum, Robert Scanlon and Edward Lenz remain chief of police, assistant chief and sergeant, respectively. Ford and Shemela remain liaisons to the fire department.

The board voted to keep Gary Peaco as township manager and Janet Lubbert as secretary and treasurer. Candace Mathews is assistant secretary.

Other appointments approved include Haley Geyer as park director, Mike Knox as code enforcement officer, John Hock as public works director, Ron Olsen as zoning and planning consultant, Joan Crawford as auditor elected and Darryl Brandon to the vacancy board.

Mike Corle was appointed sewage enforcement officer and Heidi Brandon and Tom Scheller were appointed to the parks and recreation board. Dennis Sybert was appointed animal control officer at a rate of $500 per month.

Township solicitors remain Mike and Sean Gallagher. The Gallaghers also were retained as solicitors for the planning commission.

Sitting planning commissioner Brett Schultz remains on the commission board. Morrow is replacing Franceschina as the commission's seventh member.

Mars Bank remains the township's depository. The chairman was approved to spend $1,500 “for an emergency,” as needed.

The township's first official supervisor's meeting will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 13 in the township municipal building.
