Man accused of strangulation
A Butler man is behind bars on six-figure bond after city police say he strangled his live-in girlfriend and later kicked an officer called for the reported domestic dispute New Year's morning at the couple's home on the 100 block of Hansen Avenue.
Devin L. Parker, 30, is facing a pair of felonies and other charges stemming from the incident Wednesday.
Butler police said they got the call about 2:30 a.m. and spoke to the 31-year-old victim, who had gone to a neighbor's house with her two young children following the alleged assault.
She told officers that Parker, her fiancé, had returned home under the influence of drugs and alcohol, according to charging documents, and “became enraged for no apparent reason and attacked her.”
She recounted that she was on the couch when he grabbed her by the neck and pushed her backward, causing her to fall on top of her children.
Parker is accused of squeezing her neck, “impeding her breathing.” She said he subsequently threw her to the ground, wrapped his legs around her and put his arm around her neck.
“He then proceeded (to) squeeze,” documents said, “and pull back at the same time.”
The older child, a 5-year-old, yelled at the suspect and he let go of the victim. The woman said she fled with her children to the neighbor's house.
Police found Parker at his apartment. They described the home as being in “complete disarray.” He was arrested and placed in the back of a cruiser.
He immediately started hitting his head off the partition in the vehicle, police said. Lt. David Villotti opened the door and tried to get him under control.
At some point, Parker turned and kicked the officer three times on the left leg and knee, documents said. He stopped struggling with police after Villotti threatened to Taser him.
District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Parker on felony charges of aggravated assault and strangulation and misdemeanor charges of child endangerment and simple assault.
He was placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bond, with the condition that he have no contact with the victims.
His preliminary hearing was not immediately scheduled. Online court records did not indicate if he has an attorney.
