Burning cigarette sets car on fire in downtown Butler
A smoked cigarette led to a car fire Thursday on Main Street in Butler.
Around 11 a.m., a man pulled over his dark red Buick sedan to the side of Main Street after smoke began filling the car, according to emergency personnel.
“The fire started in the passenger compartment due to smoking,” said Fire Chief Chris Switala.
Switala said no one was injured, but the car needed to be towed from the spot, near the intersection with Brady Street.
All of the windows were coated with smoke residue, and there was some damage to the inside of the passenger side of the car.
“It was knocked down before our arrival with an extinguisher,” Switala said. “We made sure it was out.”
The fire department restricted traffic for about 15 to 30 minutes.
Butler City Police were also at the scene.
