A passenger was hurt after the vehicle they were in struck a tree and a utility pole on Tuesday along Freeport Road in Summit Township.

SUMMIT TWP — A one-car crash on Freeport Road sent one passenger to the hospital.

Emergency crews were called at about 12:45 p.m. to a vehicle into a utility pole at 369 Freeport Road.

According to state police, the female driving a dark-colored Toyota Camry was heading north when her car veered off the road, striking a tree, and then hitting a utility pole.

Police said the vehicle turned almost 360 degrees between the two impacts, causing damage on all sides of the vehicle.

The majority of the damage was to the front of the vehicle.

According to police, the male front passenger was transported by East Butler Ambulance Service to Butler Memorial Hospital for evaluation of unknown injuries.

The driver was not injuried.

Investigators at the scene said they believe speed to be a factor in the crash based on the damage.

The Herman Volunteer Fire Department assisted in cleaning up debris around the vehicle, which came to rest about 50 feet south of the Dollar General parking lot entrance.

Firefighters restricted traffic around the accident until the vehicle could be towed. Traffic was reopened to full strength by 1:45 p.m.

Firefighters left cones around the potentially damaged pole for the responding utility company.
