Grant to benefit South Butler district

JEFFERSON TWP — A $336,435 grant received this month by the South Butler County School District will fund new programs and support ongoing ones throughout the campus.

A news release from the district said the Ready to Learn block grant also will help with the cost of professional development for district teachers.

Specifically, the grant has been earmarked for new reading level school libraries for each elementary classroom, offering financial support to disadvantaged students in need of in-school therapy, and the purchase of math and reading games to expand instruction, among other uses.

Additionally, intermediate and middle school science asset kits and after-school tutoring at the high school will be funded, as will support for the Lead the Way biomedical science program in 2020-21.

District officials say the grant will touch each of the district’s 2,200 students in some way.
