Sending Santa some requests

Dear Santa,

It's that time of year again. Please grant my Christmas wishes for these fine folks:

To ERIC CHRISTY, Butler football coach: A fresh schedule and a fresh outlook.

To the BUTLER BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM: A WPIAL championship.

To ETHAN MORTON, Butler guard: The same thing. That's all he wants, Santa, really.

To SPECIAL OLYMPIANS everywhere: The chance to experience the same feeling James Caldwell did the night he bowled his perfect game.

To MIKE KILROY, Eagle sports writer, and his wife DAHN: You already gave them their world in new daughter Emma Caroline. How about throwing in a best seller for him, too.

To the PITTSBURGH STEELERS: A starting quarterback, so fans can stop worrying about who should be the starting quarterback.

To SHAWN LUTZ, Slippery Rock University football coach: Two more wins.

To DEREK PYDA, Eagle sports writer: A Steeler playoff berth, followed by a win or two ... or three or four.

To ROLAND RIVERS III, SRU quarterback: A genuine shot at a job in the NFL. I think he can take it from there.

To ALEJANDRO HERRERA-RONDON, Seneca Valley wrestler: 200 career wins ... OK, OK, maybe next year. Get him to 150, maybe?

TO PITTSBURGH PIRATE FANS: A matching set of new general manager, new manager — and new owner.

To ALAN FANECA, retired Steeler offensive lineman: Induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. You've been dragging your feet on this one, Santa.

To the PITTSBURGH PENGUINS: Good health.

To the PITTSBURGH STEELERS: Ditto.

To JUDY GEIST, Knoch volleyball coach: A healthy lineup.

To MATT GOODLIN, injured Knoch running back: A healthy recovery.

To GERRIT COLE,Yankees pitcher: A healthy paycheck ... Oops, see you took care of that already, Santa.

To ANTONIO BROWN, ex-Steeler: A heathy mind.

To the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS: A good lawyer.

To BOBBY McGRAW, Slippery Rock University women's basketball coach: More enthusiasm and energy, if that's possible.

To BLAIR GERLACH, Mars girls soccer coach: Take away the tie. He's got everything else.

To JIM SMITH, Eagle staff writer: The realization that Boston sports teams don't get to win championships all of the time. I see you've gone to work on that one, Santa.

To JIM MORANDINI, Eagle news desk: One more title for LeBron.

To PAT NARDUZZI, Pitt football coach: An escape from mediocrity.

To JOE SHERWIN, Karns City football coach: Respect.

To MIKE TOMLIN, Stelers head coach: Ditto.

To SPORTS PEOPLE EVERYWHERE: Time to bask in the season and appreciate the good fortune we have to coach, play and follow the games we cherish so much.

Merry Christmas!
