Middlesex budget holds line on taxes

MIDDLESEX TWP — Supervisors unanimously approved the 2020 budget Wednesday night with no discussion.

The finalized budget was not available for the public at the meeting.

According to township manager Travis Cavanaugh, the final budget varies slightly from the budget tentatively approved on Nov. 20, but there are no tax increases.

According to the tentative budget, 2020 tax rates remain at 9 mills for the township's general fund; 1.5 mills for the debt service fund; and 1.5 mills for the fire service fund.

According to the tentative budget posted to the township's website prior to the meeting, the township anticipates $615,000 in revenue from real estate taxes.

An additional $96,200 in revenue is expected via licenses and permits. Intergovernmental revenue is budgeted for $200,000.

The tentative budget's total general fund revenue is slated at $2,353,080.

Total general fund expenditures are expected to be $2,439,369. Of this, $474,432 is budgeted for the township's police department and $1,135,580 is allotted for public works.

Transfers of $288,477 into the general fund revenue and $196,000 into the general fund expenditure accounts result in a proposed $28,238 fund balance.

The township expects to receive $265,997 in Liquid Fuels for the 2020 fiscal year.

Middlesex's state “Turnback” payment — money for highways previously owned by Pennsylvania and transferred to Middlesex — are expected to be about $22,480.

These numbers might vary in the finalized budget, which will be posted on the township's website, according to Cavanaugh.
