Barks and meows ring in holiday spirit at open house

Gracie and Zinni were two of the dogs and cats that donned holiday sweaters to pose with a picture with Santa Clause at the Butler County Humane Society on Sunday.

CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Gracie and Zinni perked up their furry ears and smiled for the camera.

“It's wonderful,” said the dogs' owner and Butler resident Edyie Potts of the Butler County Humane Society's Holiday Open House on Sunday afternoon. “It's a good cause. We come every year.”

All was merry and bright at the open house as dogs large and small and the furriest of cats took pictures with Santa Claus at the nonprofit animal welfare organization at 1015 Evans City Road.

Proceeds go toward the care of the animals said Jennifer DiCuccio, executive director, adding that the tradition is in its ninth year.

Christmas spirit came in the form of the festive sweaters and red and green bows that wrapped and adorned each pooch and cat in holiday warmth.

Heather Clement snapped photos of the pups and cats with Santa. The event also included a raffle and treats.Butler resident Connie Cormibe, who is a two-year Butler County Humane Society volunteer, brought her daughter and cat, who are visiting from Florida, to take their holiday picture.Cormibe had her own cat, Howie, in tow. She adopted it from the organization.Open houses allow local residents to get a glimpse of the organization and meet some of its furry friends, while having holiday fun, Cormibe said.She added that people can volunteer at the shelter if they want to give back during the holidays.
