Driver hits pole in Butler
A man was hospitalized Friday after his car struck a utility pole on Morton Avenue.
Dispatchers were alerted to the crash around 12:40 p.m.
According to Butler city police, the man was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital for evaluation.
Police said the man wore a seat belt, but he appeared to have blood on his head and no visible wound.
After the man was transported, a family member arrived and removed a car seat from the vehicle, but no children were in the car at the time of the crash.
A portion of Morton Avenue near the accident was closed for about an hour, but reopened around 1:30 p.m.
The man's vehicle was totaled with heavy front-end damage and deployed air bags. The car was towed from the scene.
Police said West Penn Power was called to check the pole, which had a notable missing chunk nearest the roadside, but it was unclear if the damage was from this crash or a previous one.
Butler Township police and firefighters also assisted at the scene.
