Dorothy was born July 10, 1931, in DuBois, and was the daughter of the late Robert Ernest Carlson and Dorothy Alice (Van Houten) Carlson.

Dorothy was a homemaker and an active member of Community Alliance Church.

She worked as a nurse’s aide at Maple View Hospital and also worked at the Goodrich Plant, both in DuBois. Dorothy was a home health aide for the VNA and worked at Penn Champ in East Butler.

She was a life member of the W.C.G. Missionary Group of State Church of God in Emlenton, and had directed the cleanup project in Summit Township.

Reading was high on Dorothy’s list of priorities, along with writing and sending letters, cards and notes to shut-ins and family and friends. She found enjoyment in Butler cultural groups such as the symphony orchestra, M.T.G., Butler Little Theatre and BC3 Productions, along with eating out with family and friends. In addition to learning to use a computer, she also enjoyed sports and taking walks.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Danny Lee (Billie) Carlson of Kittanning; her daughter, Ellen Marie (John) Shields of Fishersville, Va.; one granddaughter, Heather (Thomas) Walton; one great-granddaughter, Grace Walton; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, Charles “Charlie” E. Carlson, whom she married on June 4, 1950; four sisters; and four brothers.
