Bridge crash causes Rt. 8 closure; driver injured

Emergency crews rescue a woman injured about 7 a.m. Friday when the pickup truck she was driving struck the side of the Route 8 bridge in Butler. The woman suffered an apparent dislocated knee, authorities said.

A woman was injured around 7 a.m. Friday when she lost control of her pickup truck and struck the side of the Route 8 bridge in Butler, authorities said.

The woman, whose name was not immediately released, suffered an apparent dislocated knee, according to emergency crews who treated her at the scene.

It appeared she was traveling south when the truck hit the concrete barrier of the bridge just past the traffic light and a little north of Butler Tires for Less.

The crash closed southbound traffic for about 20 minutes before one lane reopened.

Butler police and fire departments responded along with a Butler Ambulance Service crew. The driver was taken out of the truck and placed on a stretcher before being taken to Butler Memorial Hospital, authorities said.

The truck sustained front-end damage, and its driver's side air bag deployed in the wreck.

Police later called the city road department for a truck to salt the road. It was not known if slippery road conditions were a factor.

A police accident report was unavailable.
