Incumbents keep supervisor posts in Center Township

Bob Sloan and Alan Smallwood won re-election to the Center Township board of supervisors, unofficial election results show.

Smallwood, the only candidate running with both Republican and Democrat nominations, garnered the most votes with 1,372. Sloan came in second with 1,235.

Don Pringle, a former Butler School Board member hoping to join the board, came in third with 1,087 votes.

Smallwood and Sloan were unable to be reached Tuesday night, but Pringle offered a brief comment.

As was recently reported in the Butler Eagle, Pringle took both legal and personnel umbrage with his political opponents over a letter they circulated throughout the township that alleged that Pringle wanted to change local codes to allow for adult bookstores to open up shop.

“I guess their dirty politics wins,” Pringle said. “That's all I have to say.”

Sloan ran with a Republican nomination, while Pringle ran with a Democratic nomination.

Sloan and Smallwood will return to the board with fresh six-year terms.

In the May Republican primary, Sloan got 622 votes, Smallwood got 645 votes and Pringle got 611 votes.

None of the three appeared on May's Democratic primary ballot, but Smallwood and Pringle secured that party's two nominations via write-in votes.

The three precincts in Center Township saw similar levels of voter turnout. Center Township 1 had 39.82 percent voter turnout. Center Township 2 had 38.8 percent voter turnout. Center Township 3 had 42.17 percent voter turnout.

Center Township's other supervisors are Ron Flatt, Philip Wulff and Ed Latuska.
