Diesel spills near park after minor accident

A minor accident involving a truck and a car just before noon Monday resulted in a diesel fuel spill in Franklin Township near Moraine State Park.

Butler County hazmat personnel responded to the accident at the intersection of West Park Road and North Shore Drive and remained at the scene past 2 p.m.

No injuries were reported, but an estimated 50 gallons of diesel fuel leaked from the truck, said Dustin Drew, park manager.

Officials said the spilled fuel was contained on the road and berm and did not enter Lake Arthur or any streams.

The hazmat team used absorbent pads and materials to remove the fuel and help dry the road, said Scott Hoffman, hazmat specialist for the county emergency service department.

“Nothing made it to the lake or streams,” Hoffman said.

State police and the Slippery Rock and Portersville volunteer fire departments also responded to the accident.
