People who wear a costume to take on the persona of their favorite movie, anime or video game character and those who enjoy live action role-playing of their favorite games or movies are attending Slippery Rock-Con at Camp Bucoco in Slippery Rock Township. The event, a fundraiser for the Slippery Rock Community Library, ends Sunday.

The Slippery Rock-Con is in full swing and full fantasy mode.

The second such event in three years is a three-day convention at Camp Bucoco in Slippery Rock Township. It began Friday and ends Sunday.

Organizers said they expected 250 people or so to attend the con, which has much to offer or enthusiasts of fantasy-type tabletop and card games, people who wear a costume to take on the persona of their favorite movie, anime or video game character (cosplay), those who enjoy live action role-playing (LARP) of their favorite games or movies, and lightsaber aficionados.

"It's a pop culture convention," said Karen Pierce, librarian for Slippery Rock Community Library. "It's about fantasy, imagination and creativity. There's so much to do and it's a lot of fun."

The con is also a fundraiser for the library.

Some of the featured draws this weekend included Maxx Sterling, who discusses live action role-playing; illustrator Ralph Masiello, who teaches a workshop on drawing dragons; and the Outer Rim Praxeum, a Star Wars-themed group that puts on lightsaber demonstrations.
