SAXONBURG — Subway on Pittsburgh Street was expected to be closed through the rest of the day Tuesday following a small fire in the women's bathroom.

Station 15 Capt. Mike Krchelich of Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Co. said the fire was electrical in nature and took only minutes to put out.

“There was a little bit of fire in the wall,” Krchelich said. “We had to shut off the main breaker panel, and the fire went out.”

He said it appeared to be a switch that caught on fire with some extension into the wall.

Krchelich said the firefighters were returning from another call at the time of the Subway fire, so they were able to get there and act quickly.

Everyone evacuated from the building, and no one was injured.

Employees at Subway could not comment on the fire.
