The mobile home at 321 E. Main St. in Evans City was destroyed by fire Monday. The renter is not insured, but the owner of the trailer is.

EVANS CITY — A renter and his dog escaped a fast-moving fire early Monday in the downtown area.

Fire Chief Steve Bicehouse said the older model mobile home behind a two-story house at 321 E. Main St. was completely leveled by the blaze.

“We were there for two hours at the most,” Bicehouse said.

While the address is East Main Street, the mobile home sits on the corner of Porter and Stewart alleys.

Bicehouse said the man who lives in the home was sleeping in the living room when he awoke and saw flames. The man grabbed his dog and fled the burning home.

Neither the renter nor the dog were injured.

He told firefighters that he suspected the flames resulted from a heater he had in the bedroom.

“But there's no way we can tell,” Bicehouse said. “It was too far gone to even do an investigation.”

He said the man is staying with a friend, and no other homes were damaged or evacuated.

The renter is not insured, but the owner is, Bicehouse said.

He said the owner of the trailer and the rental house at the address lives in Greensburg, Westmoreland County.

County tax records show the owners of the house and mobile home as John A. and Brian J. Porter.

No contact information was immediately available for the owners.

Callery, Harmony and Adams volunteer fire departments also responded to the scene.
