Foxburg water customers under 3-day boil advisory
FOXBURG, Clarion County — All 140 water customers in the borough are under a boil advisory for at least three days.
Gwen Atwood, secretary at the Foxburg Area Water and Sewer Authority, said she received a call at 7:45 p.m. Monday that some customers in the borough's higher elevations had low water pressure.
An investigation by authority workers found water bubbling up on River Road, where they discovered a leaking pipe.
“It's more like a mud puddle than anything,” Atwood said of the water on River Road.
Atwood explained that back suction in a leaking pipe can cause bacteria to enter the water supply.
Residents should boil water used for drinking and cooking, she said.
Customers can use the water to bathe and wash clothes, but should check that the water in the lines is not discolored from stagnation before filling a washing machine.
Atwood said in addition to the River Road leak, workers suspect another pipe is leaking elsewhere.
“We'll check our lines, but it could be someone's personal line,” Atwood said.
She said in the latter case, the homeowner would be responsible for repairing the line so the water system could be restored.
Atwood said authority officials must wait to analyze bacteria samples, which takes 24 hours to complete.
“It'll be no less than three days,” she said of the boil-water advisory.
Atwood said crews are working to correct the issue.
