Men arrested on drug charges after raid at Brady Street home

County narcotics officers arrested two men and seized bags of suspected cocaine and other contraband during a raid Wednesday night at a West Brady Street apartment in Butler, authorities said.

Brian K. Murdock, 48, who lives at the apartment, and Ahmad H. Fitzpatrick, 27, of New Castle are in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 bond each.

The Butler County Drug Task Force conducted the investigation, which began in July and included multiple controlled drug buys of crack cocaine at the home, officers said.

Both suspects were home when officers executed a search warrant shortly before 9 p.m. The county's emergency services unit assisted.

County Detective Tim Fennell, who leads the task force, said Fitzpatrick was coming out of a bathroom, and he possibly flushed evidence down the toilet.

The search turned up three small plastic bags of suspected cocaine belonging to Murdock, three digital scales and three cellphones, authorities said. The items were seized along with $398 found in Fitzpatrick's pants. Some of that money, officers noted, included prerecorded official funds used in at least one of the earlier drug buys.District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned both suspects on felony charges of delivery of a controlled substance, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy to deliver a controlled substance.Additionally, both are charged with a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and Murdock is charged with a separate count of misdemeanor drug possession.Online court records did not indicate if either man has an attorney. Also in the apartment was Malinda M. Bernardi, 44, of Butler, who was arrested on three unrelated bench warrants, authorities said. Afterward, she was taken to the county prison.
