Rotarians join forces to build picnic tables

Members of the Butler PM and Cranberry Township Sunrise Rotary clubs helped assemble and install dozens of picnic tables at Moraine State Park last weekend. Jack Coen, president of the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau and a member of the Cranberry club, said the joint effort aims to help the state park improve facilities and replace equipment.

Two local civic organizations joined forces last weekend to help improve Butler County's favorite “hidden gem” as Rotarians from the Butler PM and Cranberry Township Sunrise clubs helped assemble and install dozens of picnic tables at Moraine State Park.

Jack Coen, president of the Butler County Tourism and Convention Bureau and a member of the club, said the joint effort aims to help the state park improve facilities and replace equipment.

He said the two groups, along with the Rotary Club of Portersville-Prospect, donated money to take advantage of a matching grant program from Rotary International.

Thus far, the three groups helped Moraine purchase 50 picnic tables, and hope to help with the purchase of additional tables at Lakeview Beach. Coen said all the Rotary clubs in the area have been invited to participate in the effort and donate to the fundraiser, which runs until December. He said a plaque will be installed at the beach recognizing the Rotary clubs.

Rotarians assembled picnic benches at Moraine State Park over the weekend as part of a service project.
