Woman faces multiple counts of welfare fraud

A Connoquenessing Township woman is accused of illegally obtaining more than $7,600 in public assistance.

The state Inspector General's Office charged 32-year-old Tiffany M. Kroll last week with fraudulently collecting $4,087 in Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, formerly known as food stamps, and $3,544 in cash assistance benefits.

Kroll is to be arraigned Oct. 21 on two felony counts of welfare fraud at the office of District Judge William Fullerton in Butler.

Investigators said the defendant was not entitled to the benefits she collected between June 1, 2018, and April 30 because she failed to report income from a restaurant job to the state's Department of Human Services.

According to charging documents filed Monday, if Kroll had reported that income, she would have been “totally ineligible to receive any SNAP or cash benefits.”

She is charged with separate third-degree felony counts of welfare fraud.

If convicted, Kroll faces a maximum penalty of seven years in prison and a fine of $15,000 for each count. Additionally, she faces a mandatory disqualification period from the benefits program.

Online court records did not indicate if she has an attorney. She could not be reached for comment.
