Vehicle travels down embankment to creek
CRANBERRY TWP — A driver was transported for evaluation by emergency personnel Thursday after his vehicle went off Franklin Road at Steven M. Krochta Memorial Bridge.
The accident occurred just before 11:30 a.m. on the road just north of North Boundary Road. According to Sgt. William Ahlgren of the Cranberry Police Department, the vehicle left the roadway while traveling north, taking out a guardrail and a sign identifying the bridge before going down an embankment to the creek.
The vehicle was sitting in a heavily weeded area and not submerged in water.
Ahlgren said the driver got out of the vehicle on his own after the accident and walked up to Franklin Road, where he was spotted by motorists who called 911. The driver was taken by ambulance for evaluation. Ahlgren said the reason the driver went off the road is unknown.Cranberry Township police, fire and EMS were at the scene, as was a towing company to remove the vehicle from the embankment. It was cleared in just over an hour.
