Man, 28, in jail for alleged sexual assault of girl, 15
A 28-year-old Butler man is being held in jail for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl.
Dalton A. Best was arraigned Friday on felony charges of statutory sexual assault and corruption of minors. District Judge William Fullerton set his bond at $25,000, and Best has been unable to pay it, according to court records. Best has no listed lawyer.
Best was charged after a 15 year old alleged that he raped her Aug. 31 during a midnight rendezvous between the two at Memorial Park. During an interview on Sept. 10 with authorities, the victim alleged that Best knew she was 15 years old, and during their meeting Best began to inappropriately touch her. While sitting at a picnic table, the victim allegedly told investigators, Best partially undressed her and had sex with her. The victim allegedly told investigators that the incident was her first sexual encounter.
On Sept. 11, Butler City Police spoke with Best at the police station. Best allegedly acknowledged that the victim was a minor, and he told police that the Memorial Park meeting escalated between the two.
“Me and her were too busy in the moment, so like if we did, I guess it just happened so quick on that,” Best said, according to police.
Police asked for clarification that Best and the victim had sex, and Best allegedly confirmed that’s what happened.
He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing in October.
