German band, brats enjoyed at Booktoberfest fundraiser
JEFFERSON TWP — The smell of bratwurst and a bumping sounds of a German band met the 100 area residents who attended the second annual Booktoberfest on Friday night at the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Department.
Booktoberfest, which is the primary annual fundraising event for the South Butler Community Library, featured a German buffet, the Barrons-Lite band, beer from Cellar Works Brewery in Sarver, cocktails and 42 raffle baskets containing a plethora of prizes donated by local businesses.
Lisa Vandevort-Crist, a library board member, said more than $5,000 was raised last year, when 70 tickets were sold. She hoped to earn a little more at Friday's festive event.
Vandevort-Crist appreciated the benevolence of everyone who attended Booktoberfest on Friday night.
“They are committed to having a strong community library,” she said. “It's something we value and we're holding onto.”
