Raising homes, hope
The morning sun rose to the pounding of hammers, the clink of nails, and the thud of wooden boards Saturday in Cabot.
About 250 members of St. Luke Lutheran Church, 330 Hannahstown Road, built the frames to a home and two tiny veterans' houses during its Servant Day and House Build.
In partnership with the Center for Community Resources in Butler, the 1,500-square-foot house will be constructed and completed in Natrona Heights, while one tiny house will be built in Cabot and the other in Clarion County.
This is the fourth year for the event that builds fellowship and worship through service, said Brenda Fett, organizer. The church worked with Concordia Community Support Services in Cabot, the Center for Community Resources, and Crossroads Missions — Help Build Hope based in Kentucky on the project. While the building took place over the course of the afternoon, inside the church other community members prepared fleece blankets, made dresses for girls in Tanzania and greeting cards for military families, prepared dry soup mix for area food pantries, made fleece hats and packed kits for newborns as service projects for other organizations.
