Man takes guilty plea in 2017 homicide case

David J."Dae Dae" Franklin of Brackenridge, accepted a plea deal Tuesday in the fatal shooting of a man in a in a Wick Street apartment.

With a group of jurors ready to hear opening statements in a homicide case on Tuesday, the defendant decided to take a plea deal at the last minute.

Prosecutors were set to argue that “Dae Dae” Franklin, 22, of Brackenridge, shot a man on March 16, 2017 at an apartment complex during an incident that investigators said was in regard to $900 Franklin believed had been stolen from him. But Franklin decided to admit to killing Rashaan Khalil “Smoke” Adams and pleaded guilty to third degree homicide.

The plea deal puts Franklin in prison for 15 to 30 years, according to the plea deal reached.
