One man accused of firing shots

Another still being sought in gun case

BUTLER TWP — Police have arrested one man and are looking for a second man who allegedly fired shots in a privately owned wooded area off Evans Road.

Township police received reports around noon on Friday of two men walking into the woods and firing guns. Police arrived, according to a report, and arrested Eric. R. Deem, 47, of Butler, but Nicholas Thor Heath, 39, of Butler allegedly ran away and police still haven't located him.

Police said the pair also drove in a car that they didn't have permission to use.

Deem is being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of $25,000 bond after being arraigned on felony charges of possession of firearm prohibited, firearms not to be carried without a license, criminal conspiracy engaging in theft and receiving stolen property, a misdemeanor charge of criminal conspiracy engaging in the unauthorized use of motor vehicles, and a summary charge of defiant trespass. Heath faces identical charges.According to police, the two have criminal convictions that prohibit them from owning guns.Records show the two have been charged with various crimes over a period of years.In 2015, Heath pleaded guilty to theft, and prior to that, he was convicted of other crimes.Earlier this year, Deem pleaded guilty to possession of drug paraphernalia, and he has several cases that date back to the early 1990s.
