WINFIELD TWP — The final cleanup of the Butler-Freeport Community Trail before the annual Buffalo Creek Half Marathon will be held Saturday.

Chris Ziegler, trail council president, needs volunteers to help spruce up and clear the trail from 9 a.m. to noon at the Cabot trailhead at Center and Helmbold avenues.

Equipment needed includes chainsaws, pruners, rakes, shovels, weedeaters, safety glasses and gloves.

Volunteer opportunities are also available on the day of the half marathon, which will be held Oct. 19. Positions requiring volunteers include packet pickup Oct. 17 and 18, race-day helpers and other assignments.

The half marathon is the trail council’s largest fundraiser. Proceeds benefit upkeep and repair of the 20.5-mile trail.
