Some areas of Butler County were hit hard as storms roared through the area early Wednesday evening.

West Penn Power reported 72 customers without power, and Central Electric had 162 customers wthout electricity as of 8 p.m.

Penn Township Police Sgt. Jack Ripper said dispatchers received numerouse reports of trees down, including on the following streets: Dodds, Winters, Crisswell, Jones Dutchtown and Rockdale.

The first call came at 5:22 p.m.

Some trees were uprooted or toppled onto poles, bringing down wires.

Dodds Road closed around that time due to downed trees and remained closed as of 7:30 p.m.

West Penn Power and Central Electric crews were making repairs to about five damaged poles, and a number of residents were without power.

The township building, which houses the police department, also lost power for some time.

Middlesex and Butler Townships also reported damage.
