Scoop's back on target

That’s more like it.

I didn’t go 10-0, but 9-1 will do.

The ol’ Scoopster is finally feeling some mojo heading into Week Whatever, which will present quite the challenge.

There are some intriguing matchups on tap and games that could go either way.

On to the picks:

Pine-Richland at Butler — This has traditionally been a tough matchup for the Golden Tornado.

This year will be no different.

Butler, though, does have some weapons on the offensive side of the ball and the Tornado could put a couple of scores on the board. But the Rams are just too powerful. Pine-Richland 44-12.

Seneca Valley at Mt. Lebanon — The Raiders got a W last week and found some offense in the process.

Seneca Valley is going to need all the points they can get against a high-power Mt. Lebanon attack.

The Raiders fall short. Mt. Lebanon 26-21.

Mars at Penn Hills — All aboard the Teddy Ruffner train.

Ruffner is big and fast and scary to opposing defenses as he lugs the football. He can run around you or over you — sometimes both.

Penn Hills, though, has a formidable defense and could make the sledding a bit, er, rough for Ruffner. Still, the Planets prevail. Mars 22-18.

Knoch at Highlands — All aboard the Matt Goodlin train.

Goodlin is thought to have broken a single-game rushing record for the Knights last week.

He could break it again against Highlands. Knoch 36-7.

Freeport at Elizabeth Forward — The banged-up Yellowjackets won’t start 0-3 again. They’ll find a way. Freeport 19-13.

Central Valley at North Catholic — The Trojans play was uneven against Freeport last week. At times, the Trojans looked locked in. At others, they just looked lost.

That won’t happen two weeks in a row. North Catholic 20-17.

Moniteau at Karns City — Take the records and throw them out the window. This is a rivalry game and weird things happen in rivalry games.

Both teams are banged up. Karns City has more depth, thus ... Karns City 37-17.

Union/A-C Valley 26, Otto-Eldred 24 — In a matchup of teams with extremely long names, this could be one of the best games on the docket.

The Falcon Knights have built a good bit of momentum lately. Union/A-C Valley 26-24.

Slippery Rock at Sharon — The Tigers haven’t lived up to the preseason hype.

Slippery Rock, for the most part, has. The Rockets win this one. Slippery Rock 25-18.

Burgettstown at Summit Academy — The Knights are struggling and Burgettstown is another tough matchup. Burgettstown 39-8.

Scoop wants to be released so he can sign with the New England Patriots.
