Saxonburg traffic hindered
SAXONBURG — Main Street traffic has been slow this week due to road work.
Borough Manager Mary Papik said the work is part of an ongoing infrastructure update by Pennsylvania American Water Co.
“The water company has had three major projects in town this summer,” Papik said. “They were replacing old main line to improve pressure throughout the town.”
Because the work is being done on a state-owned road, Papik said the borough does not know the extent or financial estimates of the upgrades.
Papik said when working on PennDOT roads, construction generally halts around October due to prewinter deadlines.
“They are in the final stages of milling and preparing for final pavement,” she said.
Gary Lobaugh, a spokesperson for Pennsylvania American Water, said the company is investing around $662,000 to replace aging and undersized water mains in the borough.
“The investment is part of an overall $1.5 million investment in our Butler County system in 2019,” Lobaugh said. “All of these projects will improve reliability and fire service for the community,” Lobaugh said.
Earlier in the summer, the company replaced 2,625 feet of main between East Water Street and Pittsburgh Street projects. East Water street replaced 4-inch main with 8-inch main and Pittsburgh Street replaced 8-inch main with 12-inch main.
Last week the company finished consolidating and replacing two 8-inch mains with one 12 inch main on West Main Street.
According to Lobaugh, all customers involved in the three projects should be connected to the main.
Lobaugh said he expects final restoration to the road completed by late fall.
