Traffic moving on I79 after trailer fire

The Harmony Fire District and firefighters from Portersville and Prospect responded to a box trailer that caught on fire about 4 p.m. Saturday on Interstate 79 near the Portersville exit.

Traffic is still restricted to one lane on Interstate 79 near the Portersville exit but is no longer backed up, according to state police.

A box-trailer fire was reported at 4:08 p.m. Saturday to Butler County emergency services. Harmony Fire District and Portersville and Prospect fire departments were dispatched. Harmony ambulance was also on the scene.

The cause of the trailer fire is yet unknown, however the contents have to be cleaned up and removed, officials said.

State troopers are still on the scene.

The interstate from Exit 99, Route 422 in Butler/New Castle, to Exit 96, Portersville/Prospect was closed for about an hour. One lane was later opened but traffic was backed up for several hours, police said.
