Woman, man jailed for allegedly taking items in wheelchair basket

CRANBERRY TWP — Two Pittsburgh residents face theft charges after allegedly attempting to take more than $450 worth of merchandise from a township store Sunday.

Tiffany M. Mitchell-Fields, 28, and Larry J. Richards, 45, are charged with conspiracy to commit retail theft and retail theft.

Township police were called to Walmart around 3:30 p.m. Sunday for a report of retail theft in progress. The initial dispatch indicated two people were involved, and a woman was seen leaving the store in a motorized wheelchair.

Richards and Mitchell-Fields were located in the parking lot, where loss prevention officers said the two put items in the wheelchair's basket before leaving without paying. The complaint notes the items totaled $461.68.

Both Richards and Mitchell-Fields were arraigned Sunday, and are scheduled for preliminary hearings Sept. 13. Mitchell-Fields remains in jail in lieu of $10,000 monetary bond, while Richards is being held on $5,000 bond.
