Kids and parents get in touch with vehicle event

Nine-year-old Logan Over, of Middlesex Township, excitedly made his way from vehicle to vehicle during the third annual First Responders Touch-A-Truck event hosted by the Middlesex volunteer fire company and police department on Saturday.

MIDDLESEX TWP — From fire trucks to backhoes to a bomb squad truck, a host of first responder vehicles and heavy equipment machinery made hundreds of youth — and also the young at heart — very happy in Middlesex Township on Saturday afternoon.

Now in it's third year, the First Responders Touch-A-Truck event hosted by Middlesex Township's volunteer fire company and police department featured something for everyone.

“I just like seeing the kids react to everything,” said Jon Brown, of Middlesex, who attended the event with his family.Dorothy Riesmeyer, a paramedic with Quality E.M.S. for the past 41 years, was one of dozens of volunteers. She particularly enjoyed the opportunity to connect with people on a different level.Two-year-old Andrew Pedicone gleefully climbed into a front-end loader — his favorite — while his dad marveled at the diverse vehicles for viewing and, of course, touching.“It's always a good event, and it seems to get bigger every year,” said Steve Pedicone, of Middlesex Township.

Like Pedicone and his son, community members who came out to the Middlesex Township Volunteer Fire Company for the event continued to be impressed by the number of vehicles open to them. In addition to the wide range of first responder vehicles — including a LifeFlight helicopter — the family event featured food vendors, frozen custard, a kids fireman obstacle course and face painting. The police K9, Mibo, was a special hit with the crowd and even showed off his abilities with his handler Mark Heider. In addition to the trucks, families were able to met and interact with local first responders throughout the day.“I just like that we get to see everyone in the community,” said Brown's wife, Abbey.
