Police: Man passed out in stolen car
BRADY TWP — A man is behind bars after state police say they found him passed out in a stolen car.
The defendant, Delmar E. Silk, 60, who has no known address, told troopers he wasn't sure how he ended up Wednesday morning on Lindey Road a little west of Route 528 in Brady Township — in the vehicle.
Authorities suspect he was drunk when they found him about 7:40 a.m.
Silk later was arraigned on a felony charge of receiving stolen property and placed in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $20,000 bail.
Police said they were sent to Lindey Road after a 911 caller reported seeing an unresponsive man in the driver's seat of a vehicle. That's where a trooper reported finding the defendant.
An ambulance crew was speaking to him and medics told police that he was “highly intoxicated,” according to court documents. He refused further medical treatment.
A trooper ran the license plate of the Pontiac G6 and learned that Butler police had recorded the car stolen about 4 a.m. Monday into the National Crime Information Center database.
The owner reported it was taken from the 300 block of East Jefferson Street, city police said.
Silk told troopers that he was at his sister's home the night before and was “unsure of how he had gotten to (Lindey Road),” documents said. He also could not tell police where he had been before he ended up there.
A preliminary hearing is set Sept. 4 at the office of District Judge Bill O'Donnell in Slippery Rock.
