JACKSON TWP — The Seneca Valley Band Boosters is hoping 1,000 slices of pie will help fund their children's trip to perform at Walt Disney World next year.

The marching band's annual pie festival is scheduled for Thursday on the Seneca Valley campus. The event offers more than 1,000 slices of every type of pie imaginable, officials said.

According to band booster member Andrea Desiderio Vogel, the pies are a mix of store-bought and homemade options, and the all-you-can eat nature of the event allows attendees to try multiple flavors.

All proceeds from the event will go toward the band's planned trip to Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., in April. According to Vogel, the amount raised will be applied to the overall cost of the trip, which will decrease the cost required per student.

“It's a pretty big thing, and they get really excited about it,” she said of the band members. “We want to cut the cost down so kids don't have to pay as much.”

While the boosters hold other fundraisers and work concession stands during sporting events, the pie festival is the largest fundraiser of the year.

It's also a chance for students to debut their weeks of hard work, as a full performance of the 2019-20 halftime show takes place during the event.

Vogel said students have spent the past two weeks “working hard” from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day learning the show, and are excited to show it off for the first time.

Pie festival begins at 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the Intermediate High School cafeteria. The cost is $5 per person or $20 per family, and unlimited pie and ice cream is on the menu. The band will perform at 6:30 p.m. at NexTier Stadium.
