An attempt to resolve a domestic dispute ended with a Butler woman in handcuffs for allegedly resisting arrest.

Alyssa M. Stefanowicz, 22, of Butler is charged with resisting arrest, defiant trespassing, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness stemming from the Tuesday incident.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by state police, a trooper was called to Main Street in Connoquenessing Borough for a reported domestic dispute involving Stefanowicz and another person.

After interviewing the involved parties, Stefanowicz was asked to leave the residence. Troopers gave her the option of getting a ride from a family member or from the trooper, who would escort her home, the complaint states.

The parties continued arguing as Stefanowicz gathered her things, and the family member rescinded the offer to drive her home. Stefanowicz is alleged to have walked out of the home and onto Main Street, shouting obscenities at the trooper. She then walked through a neighboring church picnic pavilion, and allegedly began shouting at passers-by.

She was told to walk toward the trooper's vehicle, so she could be taken home, but the report indicates she “continued to refuse.”

The trooper placed a handcuff on Stefanowicz's left hand. The affidavit states she then put her right arm in front of her and began to struggle. The trooper had to use “significant soft hand technique force” to overcome the resistance, documents state.

Stefanowicz was arraigned Wednesday and is being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of $10,000 cash bond. An Aug. 20 preliminary hearing is scheduled.
