CONNOQUENESSING TWP — Center Township Elementary School fourth-grader Lilly Nagy rested a purple, water-soaked sponge on her shoulder and made a mad dash for her team's blue bucket.

“I had the most fun,” said Lilly, 9, about her first time in the Barnyard Olympics.

Lilly was one of about 50 children who played a variety of games at Wednesday's Olympics at the Butler Farm Show grounds, 625 Evans City Road.

Games included a potato sack race, egg race and herding and popping balloons.

This is the sixth year the games have been a staple at the farm show, said Tina Bryner, superintendent of the goat department.

The event has grown every year, she said, adding that only 10 children played in the first games.

Participation is open to everyone who attends the farm show, not only 4-H or Future Farmers of America members, she said.

The games allow children to have additional fun beyond the rides and farm show activities, while parents can relax as they watch the games unfold, Bryner said.On the other side of the Dairy Pavilion, Summit Township Elementary School fourth-grader Dylan Thurber raced to tuck a green sponge soaked with water under his chin.Last year, Dylan participated in the Barnyard Olympics and made sure to attend this year's event, adding that the water game was his favorite.“I like it,” said Dylan, 9, about the games. “It's fun every year.”
