EVANS CITY — “I don't know what else the community has saved, but we have saved EDCO Park, and it's super,” said Evans City Mayor Dean Zinkhann on Thursday evening at the pool's rededication.

Zinkhann and all others who worked hard to revitalize EDCO pool spoke emotionally of the project.

Though the pool has been open since mid-May, those in the Evans City community gathered at the park to celebrate the work and accomplishments of those who came to the rescue of the 32-year-old pool.

Cindy Caldwell spoke of those who worked to bring the park to Evans City when it was founded and compared the modern-day work of residents to theirs. “Today, I have a brand new appreciation for what they did,” Caldwell said.

She described the project as “making our park better.”

“The community stepped up and did their part to make the park wonderful,” she added.

From all walks of life, people in the borough gave to the project, whether they volunteered money or labor.

“We had 250 pieces that became 300 pieces, then became 400 pieces. What are those pieces?” John Rogers, EDCO Park board president, asked. “Those are 400 people pulling a weed, giving their time, talent and treasure.”

Though some odds and ends need to be tied up — such as planting trees and installing another slide — the pool project has been finished, and it is open for all to enjoy.

“This is a gem right here,” Rogers told the Eagle. “This is the start of the revitalization of our town.”
