Chicora boy, 13, going on the hunt of his life
A little boy wearing a “Save the Habitat, Save the Hunt” camouflage hat, a dark-red shirt with a small white moose logo and bruises on his right arm like badges sat in the sheriff's office last week to talk about an upcoming adventure.
His name is Danner Sweeney, 13, of Chicora, and he was selected to take part in a big-game hunt in Arizona with the help of the Butler County Sheriff's Office.
Outdoor Experience 4 All is an Arizona-based nonprofit that offers outdoor experiences to youths diagnosed with life-threatening illnesses, children of fallen heroes and children with disabilities.
Because of the group's nonprofit status, the Arizona Game and Fish Department allows unused hunting permits to be transferred to the organization.
Widenhofer told Danner he will have tags for a desert mule, a coues deer and a javelina. He said the boy also will have the assistance of a professional hunting guide who has a depth of experience in both the geography and wildlife within the locale.
