SR library launches out-of-this- world summer reading challenge

SLIPPERY ROCK — Members and friends of the Slippery Rock Community Library are joining together to read 239,800 pages this summer.

“That’s the miles from the Earth to the moon,” said Karen Pierce, librarian.

She calls her young readers “rockets” and any adults patrons joining the effort “booster rockets.”

The library, 465 N. Main St., is open from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays.

Pierce invites others to participate, too. Participants earn tickets to a drawing for a drone donated by a library employee.

Continuing with the out-of-this-world theme, the library hosts space movies every Monday at 2 p.m. during the summer.

Library patrons also are continuing their space exploration by joining with those from Evans City and Prospect libraries for a program at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Prospect firehall. The public program will be presented by the Carnegie Science Center in Pittsburgh.

The libraries are free to anyone living in Butler County. For more information, contact Pierce at 724-738-9179 or visit wwww.slipperyrocklibrary.org.
