WESTMORELAND, Tenn. — Police are investigating whether a suspect captured after an hours-long manhunt knew seven people whose bodies were discovered in two homes in rural Tennessee.

Michael Cummins, 25, was taken into custody Saturday night after being shot about a mile away from one of the Sumner County crime scenes, said Tennessee Bureau of Investigation spokesman Josh DeVine.

Police said officers responding to a 911 call from a family member led to the original discovery of four bodies and an injured person at the first home. The injured victim was transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

Investigators said Sunday in a news release that forensic scientists working at a home near the community of Westmoreland found the sixth body.

Another victim’s body was found at another home in the area Saturday. The state’s top law enforcement agency believes the two scenes are related.

Authorities have not released any details about the victims.

CLEVELAND, Va. — Authorities say five men have been trapped in a cave in southwest Virginia after heavy rains drenched the area.

Emergency management officials say six men entered Cyclops Cave near Cleveland and had planned to camp overnight Saturday until conditions worsened because of the rains, which also made it difficult for them to get out.

A 22-year-old man managed to get out about 2 a.m. Sunday and reported that the others were exhausted and suffering from hypothermia.

Virginia Department of Emergency Management search-and-rescue coordinator Billy Chrimes says state and local crews were working Sunday to plan and execute rescue efforts.

The cave measures roughly 7 miles long, but Chrimes says the men weren’t very far into it when they became trapped.

[naviga:h3]Woman shot while driving in Iowa dies[/naviga:h3]

WATERLOO, Iowa — Authorities are investigating the death of a woman who was shot while driving in northeast Iowa.

The Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reports that the shooting happened on Highway 218 on the outskirts of Waterloo around 2:30 a.m. Sunday.

Waterloo police say a bullet struck the woman in the neck as she was driving. The bullet continued on to strike one of the woman’s two male passengers and injure him.

Paramedics were called after the woman pulled over along the highway. She died at the scene.

The identities of the woman and her injured passenger were not immediately released on Sunday.

The highway has reopened since the shooting, but police were searching the area for evidence.
