CONNOQUENESSING TWP — A young Butler girl needed medical treatment after being struck by a truck around 5:30 p.m. Thursday on Route 68.

The girl was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and then to UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh, state police said.

The accident occurred outside a B & E Mini-Mart when the girl “ran between two stopped vehicles” before being struck by the truck, a GMC Sierra heading south, according to police reports.

Police at the scene said she was with a group of friends and trying to cross the street.

An employee of the B & E Mart said she believed the girl was a teenager. Police reported that she is from Butler.

Police did not indicate if the driver of the truck would be charged.

The accident occurred within 10 minutes of another wreck on the same road less than a mile away, according to Lou Zimmerman Jr., Connoquenessing Volunteer Fire Company chief. That wreck involved three vehicles, but was unrelated to the collision by the B & E Mini Mart.
